a) It is generally not possible to simply cut-and-paste the map image from this application.
Work-Arounds (generally for Windows, there are probably equivalents for other OS's):
  • Use Alt-PrtScrn, paste into image editing software of choice, clip out portion of image.
  • Use a partial-screen clipping tool. Window Vista and Windows 7 both include one called "Snipping Tool" (in Accessories). For Windows XP and earlier, you will need to search for a third-party solution.
  • Use a printer emulator that prints to pdf or an image format. Without intending any type of endorsement or recommendation, two FREE programs that I am aware of can be found at www.cutepdf.com , http://www.picpick.org/en/ and http://lightscreen.com.ar/
b) If layers mysteriously appear/disappear, it is because the main map and the print map are different sizes, and the map scale changes correspondingly. This can cause some layers to turn on and others to turn off. Either zoom to the same scale as the main map (click "Options" or click on the map and use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out) or select a print layout with a larger map (click "Options").

c) If attempting to print to scale, turn off the browser's page setup "Shrink to Fit" option and other scale options.

d) For best results, you may need to turn on the browser's page setup "Print Background" option.
